"Kate Chaston’s music resides in a place where New York City cabaret meets Laurel Canyon,
a place you will want to visit to hear her stories and feel all the qualities of her unique voice and commanding range. "

- Scott Sharrard (Little Feat, Gregg Allman Band)

"Not too long ago, I discovered the music of NYC vocalist Kate Chaston. Immediately, I was struck by her warm vocal tone within the recordings. Whether it be through her own compositions or covers of works from composers like Henry Mancini, Kate Chaston is a natural storyteller. She is able to use her musical gifts to convey emotion and depth through her songs. That's a rarity in this business! As a radio host, I'm always looking for those artists with their own voice - being confident in themselves and not trying to be someone else..the voice and artistry of Kate Chaston will be a true blessing to many in the years to come."

- Jay Daniels, Simply Timeless Radio

Montréal-born, NYC-based singer/songwriter, Kate Chaston, deftly engages audiences with earth-toned story-songs, lush tapestries interwoven with shades of jazz and pop. With an expressive musicality and vocal dexterity, Kate moves from warm lows to clear highs and back again, honoring the heroes of her youth - Rickie Lee Jones, Carly Simon, Ella Fitzgerald - while staying true to her own soulful, lyrical, and open sound.

Ever in pursuit of music, connection, and authentic expression, Kate has been dedicated to her craft, studying and working across musical and theatrical genres. She took up piano at age six and singing in her teens, ultimately winning a Trustee Scholarship to study classical voice at Boston University. She then moved to New York City to attend the Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre; after graduating, Kate performed in theatre, musical theater, and cabaret at venues such as the Century Center, La Mama, the National Black Theatre, and Don’t Tell Mama, while also singing jazz standards at her local haunts.

If acting was a wonderful journey, music was home.  When Kate started writing songs, it was, in her words, “As if the songs were letters from home.”

Now, whether singing originals or deftly interpreting standards, Kate can be found engaging audiences with humor and humanity in venues across the city, among them Rockwood Music Hall, the Bitter End, Soapbox Gallery, and the Cell, with her stellar band. About that band: Kate is proud to have worked with a rotating crew of some of the city’s finest instrumentalists, including Tony Jarvis (Sharon Jones, Charles Bradley), bassist Danton Boller (Roy Hargrove, Seamus Blake), pianist Ben Stivers (Chris Botti, Robin McKelle), guitarist Al Street (Robin McKelle, Kat Edmonson), and drummer David Berger (Amy Helm, Ana Gasteyer).

Kate recently released "I Don't  Lose No Sleep," written by Piers Partridge and produced by Aaron Hagan (Ariana Grande, Meghan Trainor). In 2015, Kate partnered with grammy-nominated producers Scott Sharrard (Gregg Allman, Levon Helm) and Charlie Martinez (Steely Dan, Donald Fagen) to release a self-titled EP that showcases both her original songs and classic covers, and is available on CD Baby, Amazon, and iTunes.  Kate is busy writing new music and putting some special projects in motion...stay tuned!
